Memorial City Mall Opens Nation’s Largest Indoor Play Area
“We started the conversation with Soft Play two years ago and, because our chairman always wants us to provide the very best of everything for our customers, we kept adding more, more, more!” says Harry Hadland, Vice President of Property Management at Memorial City Mall. “That’s just the way we do things around here.” Memorial City Mall offers the largest indoor play area in a shopping center.
Owned by MetroNational, Memorial City Mall is located in Houston, TX. And, as the old saying goes, “They do things bigger in Texas.”The new play area in Memorial City Mall is over 3,000 square feet and includes a 12-foot-long sleeping giant, a fire-breathing dragon that roars when kids play on it, a cauldron that makes bubbling sounds, flying dragons and even a three-story castle. One of the dragons is named Frolic and the entire medieval-themed play area is called, “Frolic’s Castle.”
Hadland says that MetroNational chose Soft Play for the project because of the company’s reputation for quality custom work and great service.“Soft Play, of course, is recognized as the premier provider of play areas,” he says. “The great thing about working with Soft Play is that they’re the experts. The let us keep pushing the envelope and they achieved a whole new level of engineering for this play area in order to make sure it would be safe.”
The play area opened to the public on October 18 and the response from the community has been overwhelming.
“Families love it!” says Hadland. “They love the design, the theme and the fact that the materials are anti-bacterial. They love that they can sit in one place and see their kids at all times. Everyone is happy.”
He adds that nearby retailers are also happy with the increased traffic generated by the largest indoor play area.
“We have always made sure that the experience in our center is not just about shopping,” says Hadland. “We entertain people so they will stay longer. It’s our vision to create the best experience for our guests and this play area certainly is the best play area I’ve ever seen.”
